What makes up who you are? Your personality is one of the keys to how you relate to others that come across your path of life.
As I work with couples, one of the areas of their relationship I find interesting is the individual personalities. We’ve heard the following phrases when we talk about couples:
“Birds of a feather flock together.”
or
“Opposites attract.”
So which is it? YES!! It’s a personality thing! When talking with couples, we look at the SCOPE of each one’s personality. SCOPE is the acronym used by Prepare-Enrich Assessment for each one to see their personality.
Here is the breakdown:
Social – how you relate to other people – introvert vs. extrovert
Change – interest in new experiences – strict vs. flexible
Organized – persistence in pursuing goals and living daily – conscientious vs. easygoing
Pleasing – cooperation and considerate of others – agreeable vs. competitive
Emotionally steady – the emotional reaction to stress – calm vs. sensitive
You must remember there is no right of wrong here! It’s not that one end of the spectrum is more right than the other. It’s just who we are. So what we do then is to make sure that we make the best effort to communicate effectively in all of our relationships.
“Never criticize or condemn—or it will all come back on you. Go easy on others; then they will do the same for you. For if you give, you will get! Your gift will return to you in full and overflowing measure, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, and running over. Whatever measure you use to give—large or small—will be used to measure what is given back to you.” (Luke 6:37-38)
Be blessed and be a blessing!
