Be Right Back

For the next several jots, we’re going to look at Warren Wiersbe’s Commentary on Romans, Be Right. I realize that doesn’t exactly sound exciting. What I like about Wiersbe is he takes the text and crafts notes on scripture that makes it easily understood by the non-biblical scholar, which I find myself in that circle.

“If you are tired of all the wrong things in your life, in the lives of others, and in this world, then Paul’s epistle to the Romans is the book for you.” (Wiersbe in the introduction) Wiersbe proposes that because God by his very nature is righteous we are called to live right lives. As one scholar states, God always acts according to what is right and by his very nature the final standard for what is right.”

As we look at this, I want to view through the lens of a parent. I want to be able to share with my children when God calls us to be His children, he has expectations of His children to be right. We have expectations on how our children are to act maybe even to point of perfection. Yet because of their human-ness, they are not always perfect.

As we relate this to God, our imperfection is called sin. And we are not perfect (see Romans 3:10-12)! The message of Romans then is a gracious God sending His Son, Jesus to be our redemption back to God to be found right (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Parents, I hope to bring some insight in to how we can better parent using Paul’s letter to the Romans and Wiersbe’s commentary as our guides. I hope you journey with me!

Be blessed and be a blessing!
