Be Right – Paul’s Song

I’m a singer! To say I like to sing is probably an understatement. I love the gift of music! And if you spend any time with me, for the most part, I’ll be listening to music. Even as I write this, I’m listening to some praise and worship from the Passion conference over the past several years.

When I was a junior in college, the director of the A Cappella Chorus had different of us quote scripture to introduce songs we were performing.  My text was Romans 11:33-36. I don’t remember the song that I was introducing, but I remember having to memorize this text.

It’s a song that Paul sings as he finishes up this rather large section of theological discussion of God’s grace and providence that starts in Romans 1:18.-11:32 This song is another reminder of God’s plan for salvation, not through Israel or Gentiles, but through Himself! Paul even uses Isaiah 40:13, “Who has known the mind of the Lord?”, and Job 41:11, “Who has even given to God, that God should repay them?” to illustrate his point.

But it’s still a song!

In 1973, The Carpenters released this song:

Sing, sing a song,
Sing out loud, sing out strong
Sing of good things not bad
Sing of happy not sad

Sing, sing a song,
Make it simple, to last your whole life long

Don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear
Just sing, sing a song

I have a feeling Paul just couldn’t tell of the goodness of God – he broke out in to song!

So sing your song! Sing it loud! Sing it strong! Don’t worry if you feel it’s not good enough! It’s a song of God working in your life that you sing!

Be blessed and be a blessing!
