Moses experienced what every parent who travels with children on a long drive experiences. The Israelites have just left Egypt. God had brought them out of their slavery. BUT NOW, they are complaining. “We’re hungry!!” “When are we going to get there?” “Their sheep are touching my sheep!”
God heard their complaints and sent food in the form of a bread like substance called manna. He also gave them instructions on how to collect it. They were to only get what they need for that day, except the day before Sabbath. For a while, they ate, were filled and thankful. Until they started to complain again . . . but that’s a story for another day.
How do we approach God with what we need each day? Are we grateful for what we have each day? Or do we complain that it’s not what we wanted? Or are we (me, most of the time) just forgetful of what we have and God’s provision?
Maybe that is why Jesus in his teaching of prayer said, “Pray this way!”
“Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
I think we daily need the reminder of God’s provision which is why Jesus taught us to pray this way. It’s our manna! So, take what we need for that day. Sometimes we’ll need more, sometimes less. And we’ll be thankful for God giving us what we need.
Be blessed and be a blessing!
