Help Please!

This week, I began another session of GriefShare. There are several in our class. I’m also reading through a book about grief from a suicide. This week will mark the 10th anniversary of my sister’s, Susie, death. So, you could probably say I have thoughts of grief and loss running through my head.

Grief, as defined by some, is a journey you have to take that is unplanned and you’re not really given a map. So for some, their experience of grief is like wandering aimlessly around trying to read the map and not really understanding it. For some, they are able to read the map but lack the motivation to move beyond the point on the map they are at. Some, even maybe after years, are still looking at the map, knowing where they are to go, but not sure how they are going walk this road alone. Still others, have the map, know where they are supposed to go, but are just to burdened by their grief.

Jesus said, “Come and I will give you rest.”

The tears we cry in grief. Jesus says, “Come and rest!”

The weight we bear in grief. Jesus says, “Come and rest!”

The “I’m lost” feelings. Jesus says, “Come and rest!”

Let me add, grief is not just experience in the death of a loved one. We grieve at lost opportunities. We grieve the weariness of life. And in our grief, we become anxious. We feel lost as if having a map and not knowing where we can turn. Jesus says, “Come and rest!”

Be blessed and be a blessing!
