Happy Mom’s Day

It’s the second Sunday in May which is the day we honor the women we call Mom. Through out history, there have been many women who have donned that title.

As I am writing this reflection, I can’t help but think of Mary’s song when she has just been told she would carry the Son of God:

“My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
    holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.” (Luke 1:46-50)

I believe that Mary’s song has been the song of many mothers throughout time.

As I “sing” along with Mary, I am reminded of some of the women in my life where this is true. My mother, Patsy, has lived a life of service and humility in order to bring comfort to many as a nurse assistant in nursing homes. My wife, Lori, has taught our girls to serve the Lord through teaching school and honoring God by how she works in the classroom. My mother-in-law, Nancy, served as a church secretary for many years and offered grace and a listening year to those who would call.

I’m sure you have your “Mary”. You have those women in your life that have influenced and continue to influence your life.

May we all take a moment to honor the God who continues to be “mindful of His servants” whom we call Mom! Happy Mom’s Day!

Be blessed and be a blessing!
