We’re back in the saddle!! It was a nice break to not write for a couple of weeks to allow for our VBS people to use my normal space for telling people about our VBS, which was this last week.
As we start back in this week, we’re going to talk about creating holy spaces in our family. Most of our thoughts will be based on the book, Sacred Marriages by Gary Thomas.
Take a look at these thoughts: “Prayer is to the spiritual life what the beating of the pulse and the drawing of the breath are to the life of the body.” (John Henry Newman, 19th century scholar); “As it is the business of tailors to make clothes and of cobblers to mend shoes, so it is the business of the Christian to pray.” (Martin Luther)
In short, prayer should natural to our very life much like breathing and working as a Christian husband, wife, father, mother, child, aunt, uncle, business man, in the factory, in the store, wherever we go. Think about it: we wake up and we’re breathing. We breath as we sleep at night! We go to work or school and complete our tasks almost without thinking about it.
Dad / Husband – Pray for your wife! Pray for your children!
Mom / Wife – Pray for your husband! Pray for your children!
All – Pray for your coworkers! Pray for your bosses! Pray for the people helping you at the store! Pray for the leadership of this country!
Here is what prayer does: it reminds us of the bigger picture of eternity and it reminds of God’s relevance in our lives!
As Paul says, “Pray without ceasing!” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) After all, if prayer is our life breath, we don’t want to stop breathing!
Be blessed and be a blessing!
