“Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool,
but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” (Proverbs 28:26)
This past Wednesday was a day to reflect on this very verse. It was an unusual day for the most part. I met with a new couple seeking counseling, In this particular case, the couple was meeting me away from my office – an hour away. Which is not that big of a deal. As we began, I could tell they were eager to work on creating a stronger marriage and desiring reconciliation.
Then, after that meeting, I met up with a client I had not met with in a while. Now a college student I met her on her campus. We talked about some recent struggles.
In both of those case, I was able to offer some guidance and counsel to ease anxiety. As a therapist, sometimes, I am able to suggest some thoughts that were received as “wisdom” or “wise counsel”.
When I got back to the church building, I began to work on one of the computers. We’ve had trouble connecting this particular computer to our network and thus trouble accessing internet. Realizing after trying my own troubleshooting options, I contacted Apple. The Apple support person offered strategies to help alleviate the problems we were having. I can safely say we have a functioning computer.
I have also been having some trouble with my own laptop. Again, with the help of Apple support, we actually hit a snag as my hard drive kind of crashed. So as of Thursday morning, I’m basically starting my computer up from scratch installing and updating from the beginning.
Point? There are people that you are able to give wise counsel, they move on with your words of wisdom and are blessed. There are also people that you need to seek for wise counsel, you listen attentively and alertly, begin to put their counsel in to action and you are blessed. Whether you are giving or receiving wise counsel, understand that God enters in the hearts of you and them as well. So when you hear or give wise counsel know that God is at work in those words to bring peace in to your life.
Be blessed and be a blessing!
