Uncle Albert in Mary Poppins knew. There’s a whole scene in the movie dedicated to this particular emotional and physical response to a humorous situation.
Laughter!
The proverb writer says,
“A joyful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. (Proverbs 17:22)
Some have even gone on to say the joyful heart is referring to laughter. I will buy that!
Especially as the seasons transition from summer to fall to winter, I, along with my therapist brothers and sisters, will see an upswing in the numbers as people get away from the outdoors and move inside because of the weather. And emotionally, as the seasons change, so do the seasons of our emotions.
Which is why I, like Uncle Albert, love to laugh. When I get around certain people, like family and thinking of specific friends, I almost always anticipate the moments of laughter that will happen. As I peruse the internet, especially Facebook, I literally laugh out loud at some of the posts. The most recents posts with the gal and the cat always cause laughter. There has also been the post about who you can sit next to or not sit next to at church because you could get in trouble for laughing.
We all have those people that make us smile and even laugh. We NEED those people! Maybe we’re not able to see them very often but we always look forward to being with them. Because laughing with them is always going to be good medicine for your soul.
Be blessed and be a blessing!
