I learned something new recently. I’m teaching our teens on Faith 101 – basic Bible foundations. This first class was on the doctrine of the Bible. The word of scripture is foundational to our faith in that if we don’t believe the Bible to be the true and faithful words of God, then our very faith in anything in is futile.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (ESV)
The word used for “breathed out by God” is written in other translations as inspired or inspiration. One definition of inspiration is “the drawing in of breath”.
Here comes that AHA!! moment that I had. Scripture is the words that God breathed out and inspiration happens when we draw in that breath for our own learning and growth!! That cycle of breathing, if I may, happens when we open His word for our reading or we’re able to hear it taught to us. It’s similar to when we find view a powerful piece of artwork. It’s like when we hear a song that moves us.
So maybe you feel like your Christian walk is lifeless and like you are trying to catch your breath – maybe even to the point of needing oxygen. Might I suggest you open the words of God in the Bible and take a deep breath. You may find that as you take in the “breath of God” your own breath will come back and give you life.
Be blessed and be a blessing!
