How Are You Doing?

So, I’m just checking in on you . . . some of you have not handled the “stay at home” orders placed on us very well. It’s not that you’re ready to riot and protest. But you’re looking for connections.

So, I’m reaching out again. I want to make sure you’re okay. I want to make sure that you have the mental and spiritual tools you need to continue to forge ahead through this. Here is what I suggest now that “connecting” is now starting to be allowed:

  1. Be smart. With more freedoms, there needs to be more wisdom displayed. To paraphrase the words of Paul, everything may be permissible, but not everything is beneficial. (1 Corinthians 10:23)
  2. Trust in God’s goodness. I’ll reference Dr. Hicks again from Anchors for the Soul. In his discussion of lament Psalms, he reminds us that the Psalmist, even in the darkest moments of life, always comes back to moments of praise. (see Psalm 44:4-8)
  3. Do a mental check. Especially for my friends who struggle with anxiety and depression, keep this in mind: first, ask and check the validity of your anxiety. Where is it coming from? Is it a valid threat? In most cases, you will find that you are conjuring up and feeding in to your anxiety; second, if the anxiety is valid, what can I do to control my anxiety level? Instead of going down that path, try to do something different that will take you mind and body away from the anxiety; third, but probably first, take your anxiety to the Lord in prayer. As you do this, practice the prayer this way – breath in and say a blessing, breath out and express an anxious feeling. As you become filled with the “breath” of God, you will find release and relief from anxious feelings.
  4. Call. In words of Charlie Puth, I’m only a call away. I’d be happy to chat with you and help you process whatever you’re going through.

So, how are you doing? Let me know how I can help!!

Be blessed and be a blessing!!
