I saw this the other day and my response was, “Hm!”
“Socrates taught for 40 years. Plato taught for 50 years. Aristotle taught for 40. Jesus taught 3 1/2 years. Comparatively, the ministry of Jesus transcends the teaching of these men of great philosophy.
He painted no pictures yet some of the world’s greatest artists like Raphael, Michaelangelo and DiVinci were inspired to paint or sculpt about him. He wrote no poetry, but authors like Dante and Milton were inspired by him. He composed no music, still the world’s greatest composers such as Handel, Bach, Beethoven, Hadyn wrote music to worship him.
All of creation shouts his praise!
He was Jesus of course. What got me thinking is what can we do in a matter of 3 1/2 years. Most high school students enter at age 13 or 14. Think about the transformation physically, emotionally, and spiritually that happens. Young teen men are changed in to men. Young girls become women. And it happens before our eyes.
You’ve got 4 years to live! What can you do with that? Every sphere of human greatness has influenced great people to bring their creativity to honor and worship a Carpenter of Nazareth.
Maybe because of you, someone learns another language so they can be a missionary. Possibly because of you, words of kindness and grace are spoken instead of hatred and animosity.
To be honest, Jesus influenced very few while he was alive. But once he left, his message spread! If you only had 4 years to live, live in such a way that has a great impact on others lives. And maybe like Jesus, the world becomes a better place to be because of Jesus living in you. You never know . . .
Be blessed and be a blessing!
