I’m prepping food for a graduation celebration and family coming into town for the weekend. I’m cooking a large quantity of bacon – one of the best smells in the world.
Psalm 23:5 says “You prepare a table before me in the presence of the my enemies.”
First of all, I love food! So, in my mind, I think God is prepping a table much like a Thanksgiving or Christmas feast. Turkey, honey glazed ham and all of the fixin’s to go with it. Enough food to cause a coma inducing nap afterward. And a nap long enough that when you wake up, you’re ready to go round 2. What is God preparing at your table? What food is at your feast he’s preparing for you?
The second part is intriguing to me. I’m no theologian . . . don’t even claim to be one. I look at the practicality lens in scripture. So it’s interesting to me that God is preparing this table in the presence of the enemies of the Psalmist. What this tells me is that the food is ready to be eaten in the face of potential turmoil. Yet, even in stress and battle, the feast is meant for times of celebration. It means that in the battle, victory is claimed because God has prepared a feast!
So, go ahead and claim your feast when you feel near defeat. God is preparing a table of celebration!
Be blessed and be a blessing!
