Happy Anniversary!!

22 years I have been a minister at the Plymouth Church of Christ. So Happy Anniversary church family!

Here are some interesting tidbits – October 1998:

  • Bill Clinton was the President of the United States;
  • The Chicago Bulls (NBA), Detroit Red Wings (NHL), Denver Broncos (NFL) and New York Yankees (MLB) were the champions;
  • The average price of a new car (sedan) was around $25,000;
  • Basic groceries: loaf of bread – 86 cents, gallon of milk – $1.31, dozen eggs – $1.04;
  • Average cost to purchase a home was $182,000;
  • Both Princess Diana and Mother Teresa died in 1998.

Here are some other interesting tidbits of information:

  • Ministers at Plymouth I have worked with: David Thomas, Royce Dickinson, Jr., Al Meakes, Rubel Shelly, Richard Maddeaux, Kelvin Hoover, Matthew Dowling, Alex Sergio, and Alyssa Eiswerth;
  • Elders I have served with: Rick Cox, Jack Dempsey, Jack Rogin, Richard Westlund, Bobby Way, Ted Lafever, Gary Collins, Rob Richards, Dan Sorensen, Tony Messer;
  • I think I have baptized over 30 students who came through the ministry
  • I have officiated the weddings of 8 former teens;
  • Bonus trivia – church secretaries while I have been here: Diane Johnson, Sandra Galvin, Liz Lee, Jill Vernal, Margie Collins. Fill-ins include Suzzanne Dempsey and Alyssa Eiswerth;
  • The first weekend in ministry was a family camp at MCYC. Also Ken Carty passed away – attended his service;
  • Lori and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary in Holland with the seniors;
  • Moved into our house with the help of the teens and some parents in December right before Christmas;
  • Our girls at the time were Alyssa (5 years old) and Makenna (7 months old) – Amelia was born in 2002.

All of this to say that as a church we have celebrated many great moments of ministry together. We have also experienced moments of great sadness and mourning. Through all of this, God has shown His faithfulness to this church and to me as a minister to represent Him to this church. For this, I am gratefully blessed.

Be blessed and be a blessing!
