I’m going to take a leap here and say that sometimes along this journey of life you feel a little weary and worn. I don’t know the circumstances that have led to those feelings. I just know how my life journey has gone and there have been points along the way that, looking back, I could say, “Yep! Definitely felt it . . . “
My friend Dave is a minister in Pennsylvania and posted this in a Facebook group we both are connected to:
“Hurting today for those past and presently wounded by their churches. Here to listen if you need a friend. You are not alone out there – unless you choose to be.”
Dave has a tremendous passion for helping ministers work through the pain of being a minister, especially those who have been broken by being in ministry. I could count on both hands and both feet of those who are no longer in full time paid ministry because they’ve been “burned” by the church.
Then, as I reflect on Dave’s comments and his offer to be a continual resource of compassionate listener, here comes this Bible text:
“You are better off to have a friend than to be all alone, because then you will get more enjoyment out of what you earn. If you fall, your friend can help you up. But if you fall without having a friend nearby, you are really in trouble. If you sleep alone, you won’t have anyone to keep you warm on a cold night.Someone might be able to beat up one of you, but not both of you. As the saying goes, “A rope made from three strands of cord is hard to break.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, CEV)
So, I put this out there to you. To use the words of Dave, I’m here to listen if you need a friend. “I know a guy!”, so to speak. You are not alone unless you choose to be. I will gladly walk with you and help you up if you fall. I will be one of your cords. And we both can be hard to break!
Be blessed and be a blessing!
