Year 30

As I write this, I’m getting ready to drive up to Rochester University over the next few days to hang out with some of the coolest people I know at Elevate. This is, typically, a week-long camp on campus. But due to COIVD restraints, it’s just two days this year and praying next year will be more of a normal experience.

Elevate started in 1992 when a guy at Rochester U (then called Michigan Christian College) wanted to create a camp-like experience on a college campus. He had heard of other Christian colleges having similar programs and connecting junior high and high school students. That guy was me!

And for most of 30 years, I have been able to go back to Elevate and serve the campers, college staff and directors along the way.

Here are some of my highlights:

  • Directing for the first 6 years
  • Partnering with other directors: Shannon Williams, Ryan Koral, Justin Remsing, Steve Corp, Chris Shields, Dan Henagar and Cole McClure
  • Watching hundreds, literally, hundreds of students make a commitment to Christ – one year, we had several baptisms over several nights, including pausing an AVB concert for a baptism.
  • Working with a tremendous college staff each year

As you are reading this, Elevate will have passed for this year. However, there are other camps like Elevate happening all over the country. Camps in which young hearts are led to the throne of God in worship, taught the words of God and are prayed over. Join me in lifting up these ministries and the directors in prayer for God’s love and grace will work in young students’ hearts.

Be blessed and be a blessing!
