Spring Cleaning

It’s time for some spring cleaning! Actually, I started it a couple of weeks ago when I looked around my office. I noticed books on my shelf that I hadn’t read EVER and probably will not read EVER. So I started a spring cleaning project. I got rid of books off the shelf. Most are being donated to a local library for resell or recycling. Same with several CDs that I had collected over the years of ministry and life.

I then started “cleaning” my mind. Now I know what you’re thinking . . . how do you do that? It’s very much like cleaning your house or office. You begin by purging out the things that you don’t use or need anymore.

Here is what I’m working on for cleaning my mind (now understand this is a work in progress):

  • Read my Bible – I actually started this last year. In the past, I’d say, “I need to read my Bible more.” I would commit for a couple of weeks and then the desire would fade. So, last year, and it’s carried on to this year, I’m reading through the Bible. This years’ reading is chronologically.
  • Read daily devotional thoughts – here are some of my favorite authors: AW Tozer, Henri Houwen, Thomas Merton. Yes, I know these are older works. I find in their simple and direct thoughts

What I would like to do (again, a work in progress):

  • Exercise – I like to get back to the gym. Soon! Exercise gives you an avenue to clear your mind of any thoughts that add stress. In fact, studies show that exercise helps reduce stress levels.
  • Food & diet – I need to do a better job of monitoring certain food intake. Two reasons: my physical health and my mental health. I was sitting with a group of youth pastors talking about self care. One of the guys stated that certain foods “fuel” his depression and anxiety. As we all talked about this topic for a bit, it makes sense. When I talk to clients, we do talk about their diet and what they eat.

So, now you know!! You are invited in on this to help keep me motivated to continue to “clean” up. How can I help you with your clean up?

Be blessed and be a blessing!
