Joy of Music

I don’t know where in our lives we made a turn. For some of us, it’s not a big turn. For others, somewhere and somehow, it was a big turn. At the same time, it seems like the turn was made both individually and communally. The turn: when did we become so discouraged and subsequently, so discouraging?

Here’s what I mean: sometime ago, we were carefree. We played outside (or inside on video games). We hung out with friends, played sports, had vacations. Then, we became discouraged and disheartened. We doubt our own ability to recreate the carefree attitude. And as we look at the world around us, we struggle to find any kind of goodness.

On another level, couples getting ready to get married only look at the world through “rose-colored” glasses. “Our love will help us conquer everything we will encounter,” they say. Whereas couples who have been together for a number of years and are struggling in their marriage only look at the relationship through the struggles and not the strengths.

We’ve made a turn. Some of us struggle to see the good in our life and in the lives of others. So, might I suggest something? Find your song of praise! “What do I mean by this?” you ask. Find the song that when you listen to it just lifts your spirit. It gets you moving . . . and dare I say, dance!!

Me? I can’t narrow it down. I have several songs that get me moving, motivate me, excite me! But narrowing it down, here’s my list this week:

  • Graves Into Gardens – Elevation Worship
  • Carry On My Wayward Son – Kansas
  • To the Least of These – Randy Gill / The Zoe Group

Um . . . let me think some more

Okay let’s just say . . . just about any song I listen to. I just can’t narrow it down. That’s why if you come by my office, ride in the car with me, whatever, I’m listening to music. I’m singing or humming songs.

So find your song of joy!! Find your songs that speak life to you!

Sing those songs as you are blessed! Sing them to bless others along their way too!
