Sometimes, we work and we get weary. Maybe it’s the burdens of the work week. Trying to keep up with the demands of the day can seem rather exhausting. All the feels of running the rat race to keep up with pace of work, family, and social functions. It seems like it will never end! Wow!! I’m just tired thinking about all of that!
Then there is GOOD TIRED! You know what I’m talk about. For me, it’s accomplishing a task that I’ve put my mind and hands to do. Like doing a project in the workshop and seeing it comes to completion and turning around to use that as a gift to friends and family. It’s working in the yard and trying to help to look good and grow.
There are some specific GOOD TIRED moments as well. Every time that I’ve been able to go to Honduras, as well as other mission trips, is a GOOD TIRED moment. The last several times I have gone to Honduras, we have started and completed building a house for a family in need. To work hard each day to make sure we get the tasks done that need to get done for that day. Until that last day that we work, and we’re moving the family in or leaving it just with some minor final touches. That’s a GOOD TIRED.
It’s also been times at Elevate at Rochester University or when I would go to camp for a week. To exert the energy needed to make the camp experience as engaging and connecting for all of the campers is a GOOD TIRED. Currently, as I type this, I’m in some downtime at Elevate. I’m feeling the GOOD TIRED!
And then I read,
“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.” (Genesis 2:1-3, ESV)
I wonder if God felt a GOOD TIRED at this moment. I wonder if the purpose of his resting was because he saw all that he created because it was a GOOD TIRED. Maybe why he blessed that moment!
Moments that we experience the GOOD TIRED and moments of rest following can produce moments of re-creation for us. Tired from the energy exerted for a good thing and rest from the joy of that good thing can cultivate other opportunities for more. As Paul reminds us, “And let us not grow weary of doing good.” (Galatians 6:9, ESV)
Be blessed in being GOOD TIRED! Be a blessing along the way in doing good!
