Sometimes . . . parents!

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
    and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget,
    I will not forget you!
See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
    your walls are ever before me.” (Isaiah 49:15-18, NIV)

Patsy passed away in 2020. She was a great mom! She was always so supportive. She went to our concerts, drove us around, volunteered at our schools and then went back to work. Mom was a helper! If she knew you needed help, she would do what she could to aid you. Maybe why, when she did go back to work, she went to nursing aide.

Not everyone had a great experience with their mom like I did. I’m sure that it happens. That fact that God through Isaiah refers to the kind of mother that would just forget about her child. I don’t get it! I don’t understand it! If you had a mother like that, you can understand what Isaiah is talking about. That’s your story!

I’ve met people that have had similar stories. Maybe it’s the mom. Maybe it’s the dad. Sometimes it’s both. The parents just don’t want to be a part of their child’s life. And now they are sitting in a counseling office talking about having trouble with intimacy in relationships, a history of broken relationships, and maybe even over compensating with their own children.

They also struggle with the “Abba” view of God. They may have a relationship with God. Yet, they can’t call Him, “Father!” Bad view of God? Probably! The struggle is real!

Like my mom, I want to help them!! I want them to see that they can see God parentally in spite of how their parents treated them or even how they view their parents to this day. I want them to hear the message of God, “I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palm of my hands.” Which, by the way, were the hands that went to the cross.

So, child of God, be reminded of this truth! Share in the glory of being called a child of God!

Be blessed! Be a blessing to others along the way!!
