We can call it what we want. The “ride or die” crew! The posse! The tribe! My people! Whatever we call it, we have them. It’s those people outside of family that are like family.
Several weeks ago, we met for breakfast. It had been way too long since we have seen each other face to face. So it was a great time of sharing life and laughing. It was a moment to catch up on what’s been happening. As we concluded and walked out of the restaurant, we all agreed that we needed that time. And “it was way too long between times like this.” So, we planned another time to meet up for breakfast.
There is another circle of friends! We meet monthly to encourage each other in our walk as youth pastors. This group has changed over the years since I’ve been a part of it. It started off with just three of us meeting at a coffee shop. Now there are at least 15 of us. Each month there is a topic of discussion. At our last time together, the topic was how do we help our students navigate through the cultural war.
Jesus had his circle! He had followers. Then he had his disciples – 12 as a matter of fact. Sometimes, he invited 3 of the 12 to join Him along the journey for a special time. Then, there were times when he would go off by himself to pray.
Who is in your circle? Who are the people that make you laugh when you need a pick me up? Who are the people that you can go to and share in life? Who are those people that sharpen you along the journey of life?
I’ve got mine! I’m making these times a priority this year. These people encourage me, challenge me and love me! They also allow me a chance to speak life into them.
From Solomon . . .
“As iron sharpens iron,
so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17, NIV)
Find your circle if you don’t have one! If you need one, let me know. I’ll join your circle!
Be blessed with your circle! Be a blessing to others in the circle too!
