Orange Barrels

It’s orange barrel season!! These plastic kegs of warning let drivers know that work is being done to improve the roads. I’m sure you have seen the meme of an aerial view of the state of Michigan with the Great Lakes saying, “Everything in blue is not under construction”. We all laugh and move along.

Maybe we all need to wear an orange barrel symbol. Nothing gaudy or big! No need to make a big deal. Just something little so that other people will be aware of some things.

Orange barrels mean that progress is being made. The work that needs to be done for improvement is not completed yet. A lot of times, it really is an inconvenience. It’s messy! It’s not “at a good time”! Yet, we realize in the long term, it’s for the best.

Orange barrels typically mean that we have to slow down. Traffic lanes are narrowed! Usually, you have construction workers and vehicles somewhere near the barrels. So for the safety of all, you slow down your speed.

These are reasons why we need some form of an orange barrel. We are a work in progress. God is not through with us yet.

Bill and Gloria Gaither penned these words years ago:

He’s still working on me
To make me what I need to be
It took him just a week to make the moon and stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient He must be
‘Cause He’s still workin’ on me

There really ought to be a sign upon my heart
Don’t judge him yet, there’s an unfinished part
But I’ll be better just according to His plan
Fashioned by the Master’s loving hands

Yep, I think we need some form of orange barrel to wear. Just so others know that God is at work and He’s not done with me yet. And just wait and see what He’s doing and what the end result will look like . . . maybe smooth roads!

Be blessed and patient! Be a blessing to others!
