Recently, the counseling center that I work with went through an insurance audit. It’s not as scary as it sounds! Who am I kidding? Yes it is!
In short, client charts are reviewed to make sure they are up to date with progress notes and treatment plans up to date. Lucky for me! I got the golden ticket to have several of my charts up for review. To my credit, the charts that were up for review were needing treatment plan reviews and I was meeting with the clients before the audit.
At the same time, I started to review all of my charts. Now realizing that I had not even done one treatment plan on several clients. Some of them I have been seeing since I started with the center over two years ago. So, now it’s catch up time! After meeting with the client this week, I followed up with them to let them know that we would be working on a treatment plan during our next sessions.
There are several reasons why we feel like we’re having to play catch up. Sometimes, it is as simple as we forget. We get distracted by other things, maybe less important or maybe more important. There are other times when we intentionally put things off because we simply do not want to do the task.
Maybe each day is a moment to catch up. Maybe the things we have put off remind us of the second chances we’re given. Maybe the worries of past are lessons that we could use today to live differently, to be better.
Or maybe, just maybe, we need to be reminded that today is just a new day that we have been given, not for catching up, but enjoying the blessings of today.
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”” (Lamentations 3:22-24, NIV)
We like this verse – even sing a song based on this verse. In this chapter of Jeremiah’s reflection, he talks about all of the bad that has happened. Through all of this, we celebrate being able to play catch up with God’s love and mercy. Every new day brings a new reminder of all that He does!
