Hunt for Petoskeys

It’s vacation week for me! Most vacations over the past couple of years have taken us to northern Michigan. It is here that we stay in a central location and day trips to other parts of the state.

Usually, we end up on a shoreline hunting down rocks. We make a trip to Petoskey State Park and hunt for Petoskey stones. We will sometimes end up on the shores of Lake Superior looking for agates. Combing through a coastline of rocks, you would think that all of the rocks that we hunt for are all gone. But, they are not! And so the hunt continues. One search concluded with a bounty of petoskey stones. The other search concluded with some pretty rocks but no agates.

Walking up and down the coast gives me a lot of time to think. I enjoy the time in creation. I love to hear the water splash up against the shore. The water for the most part is clear.

In a hunt for rocks the other day, I thought about how even when you find a stone, in this case a Petoskey, there are more to find. It reminds me of how God sees us. There are many “rocks” who are found by God. Yet, God continues to search for more “rocks”, if you will.

My favorite part of the story of the Prodigal Son is reading that the Father was watching for the younger son to return. Then, Jesus continues in the story to say that as soon as the Father saw the son, he ran to him.

Today, we’re going back to hunting for rocks, a different kind of rock. These are sometimes just as difficult to find. But we continue to look!

Just as God continues to look for us!

Be blessed! Be a blessing to others!
