Wedding Day

Lately I’ve been thinking as I look all around me
I see by the signs that we’re soon going to be leaving
The bridegroom is coming to take us all away
May be tomorrow, but I pray that it’s today

Chorus:
And we will fly away in the twinkling of an eye
Leaving all our heartaches and telling them all goodbye
Yes we will fly away when he hears His Father say
“Jesus, go and get your bride, today’s your wedding day”

Now when we see the bridegroom in the clouds in the sky
Will he be telling you hello or telling you goodbye?
Oh, be sure and be ready to meet Him face to face
We’ve got to fight the good fight, we’ve got to keep our faith

This is a song written by Brent Lamb. It was made popular in our little corner of the world by Acappella in 1983 on their album Traveling Shoes. (https://youtu.be/_b1wPJ2tz6s?si=F7i5jTki2HMm5xd1) I sang in a group that also sang this and usually finished our sets with it.

Two events happened in the last week that got me thinking about this song. One was a wedding reception and the other a celebration of life.

The wedding reception was for a family member that over the past 10 years has been in and out of the family due to choices that had been made. A little more than a year ago, he met this wonderful young lady. Eventually, the relationship grew to the stage where vows were made to each other and a celebration was planned. At the reception, toasts were made. Blessings over the happy couple were offered. It truly was a celebration of life to see these two enjoying their life together. It was their wedding day!

The celebration of life was for a young woman of 40. We had known her family for a long time and were very close to the family from our time worshiping at the Lake Orion Church of Christ. She was a vivacious, wonderful young woman who loved God and loved family. At her celebration, like many others, there were stories being told of her laughter and joy. Stories of pranks she played on family. Her compassion and care for those students that she worked with. Her love for her husband and two children. Best of all were the stories of her faith. It was because of her faith that she did not fear death, but even in her last breaths, prayed with and over her family. When she passed from this life, it was another wedding day for her.

So I’ve been thinking a lot about this song over the past week. Thinking a lot about Chris and Elaina! Thinking a lot about Randa and her family! Thinking a lot about waiting for the bridegroom to return for the grand Wedding Day!

Be blessed! Be a blessing to others!
