Expect the Unexpected

We’re almost two weeks into 2025! Many made resolutions and promises regarding 2025. We were going to be better, smarter, healthier! As I write this, it is January 10, or better known as “Quitters Day”. I have many online friends who have gone to social media stating their frustration over their gyms being full. But they anticipate slowly and certainly the New Year’s exercisers will eventually move on.

Overall, I’m an optimist. It drives my wife crazy that in most cases I look at the “bright side” of life. There is usually a positive way to look at things and events in life. Often in the world of counseling and even in ministry, there are moments of distress and discouragement. I have led several groups in grief loss, and recovering from trauma. All the while exploring ways that I can reframe the story to find the good in the outcome. Sometimes, it can be a challenge.

As we have turned the page on 2024 and enter into 2025, I was thinking about the unexpected blessings that happened in 2024. The change to a new year provides reflection and some will just focus on the negative events that were experienced. So you ask them, “How was your 2024?”

To which they may say, “It was okay! Someone close to me passed away. I got a diagnosis I wasn’t ready for. My job situation was . . . ” You get the idea!

So let’s start a new conversation. Let’s ask a different question. Let’s try this one: “What unexpected blessings did you receive in 2024?” Yeah – let’s try this one. Maybe you have an answer you would like to share. Reach out to me by email (ymjimbo9@gmail.com) or by Facebook and share with me one or two ways you received a blessing that you didn’t anticipate. I’d love to hear your stories. I might even share a couple next posting!

Be blessed! Find the blessings! Be a blessing to others!
