Mary Poppins sang, “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.” In other words, when you face difficult situations, look for the good in them.
I believe we have lost that as people. I was at my place of breakfast this past week when I started to get out of my car. I heard two grown men shouting and swearing at each other through their car windows in the drive through.
You read in the news or see it on TV or even maybe read it in a social media thread about a teenager who commits suicide because of being bullied at school or even experienced cyber-bulling.
As Paul writes to a church in Ephesus, he spends a section of his letter to talk about unity (Ephesians 4). As he finishes the chapter, he says this, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (4:32)
Be kind, forgive! The spoonful of sugar! We feel we can say anything we want to say without regard as to how it affects other people. In most cases, we feel we are right and we have to be right.
The reason why we are called to be kind and to forgive is because we have been forgiven. God offered his forgiveness when Christ came in to the world. He was broken and bruised for us to show God’s forgiveness? He says through Paul to be kind and forgive.
Do we act as if we have been forgiven in the way we treat others? Do we speak kind words? Do we speak forgiveness to those that we hurt us?
Be blessed and be a blessing!
