I’m on another excursion with my wife to northern Michigan. She’s a rock hunter! Specifically, cool rocks. In Michigan, it’s Petoskey stones, Leland Stones, Agates and others. These are the ones she mentions most often. This trip we’re on the hunt for Agates. I’ll leave you to search for what those look like. They’re an elusive rock to find so far. We’re checking a different part of Lake Superior this trip and hope to find some.
I like our road trips. We often play music that we both like, sometimes sing along, snack as often as we feel the need to and stop for the stretch breaks as well.
Today as we traveled, she pulled out a list of questions that we each answered. Here are some of the questions:
- You’re hosting a talk show. Who would you want as your first three guests?
- What is the craziest thing you did as a kid that your family still talks about?
- If Hollywood decided to make a motion picture based on your life, who would you think would play you?
- What is the worst date you ever went on?
We bounced ideas back and forth on each of the questions. We went back and forth talking and laughing. Made the trip feel even shorter.
I work with couples all of the time. One of the common threads I hear from couples is “we don’t have anything to talk about” or “it seems like he (or she) doesn’t want to talk to me” or “when we talk, it often ends up in us arguing”. I think I’m going to try this during a session – just some of these types of questions. Get them talking about something other than what’s wrong with their relationship and just get used to talking and sharing.
And I might add that some of my readers are not currently in a relationship. These types of questions can get the ball rolling with your friends too. They aren’t just limited to couple type relationships. Learn to open up and share!
By the way, here are my answers:
- Talk show – Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, some Detroit sports figure (can’t decide) and someone from the Food Network
- Crazy thing as a kid – couldn’t nail that answer down other than I was fairly loud and obnoxious
- Hollywood movie – Josh Gad or Jon Lovitz
- Worst date – the time the girl I asked out invited several of her friends to meet us at the movie
Your turn! Give it a try!
Be blessed and be a blessing!
