“Teacher says, ‘Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.'” Zuzu Bailey, It’s a Wonderful Life
We’ve all seen the movie! The story line of seeing the life of George Bailey that focuses on the ups and downs he has experienced. George needed to see his value. It took an “angel” named Clarence to help him see it.
We all have had those George Bailey moments and thoughts. We often struggle seeing that we have any sense of value. We like to hear that we have made a difference.
I just sat in on a case conference in which the whole session was celebrating “therapy wins”. Different stories from my therapist colleagues sharing positive movement they have been able to see and experience in clients. Some of the cases have been going on for almost 10 year and others as short as 2-3 years. We celebrate as a team and encourage each other along the way. Even with some of my own clients, they will share with me how much they have grown in our times as the client-therapist relationship has grown.
Then, I think about this verse:
“Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.” (Hebrews 13:1-3, NIV)
Maybe sometimes we’re George. Maybe, yes, maybe, sometimes we’re Clarence. You never know how your interaction with people will help them feel valued and help you feel valued as well. Maybe what Zuzu said is true. It’s possible that the bells rings because you were an angel to someone or someone was an angel to you!
Be blessed! Be a blessing!!
