“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” — Psalm 103:2
November 1–7: Recognizing God’s goodness and provision
Our first week begins with a simple but important invitation: Pay attention. So much of life happens in familiar routines. We get up, go to work or school, prepare meals, care for others, and move from one responsibility to the next. In the busyness, it can be easy to overlook the ordinary gifts that sustain us.
Psalm 103 begins with a call to the soul to bless the Lord and not forget His benefits. The psalmist understands something important about the human heart: we need reminders. We can remember our disappointments far more readily than our blessings. We can focus on what is missing while overlooking what has been given.
This week, we will practice noticing.
November 1–2: Name the blessings. Begin by identifying three things you might otherwise take for granted. A safe place to sleep, a conversation with a friend, a meal shared with family, or another day to begin again may not seem extraordinary. Yet ordinary gifts often become the foundation of a meaningful life. James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from above.
November 3–4: Look around and remember God’s presence. Take a gratitude walk. Notice the changing leaves, the beauty of creation, or the small details you usually pass without a second thought. Then spend a few quiet minutes reflecting on Psalm 23. The promise of God’s presence is not limited to the peaceful moments of life; He walks with us through the valleys, too.
November 5–6: Practice contentment. Philippians 4:10–13 invites us to consider what it means to be content in different circumstances. Contentment doesn’t mean giving up on our hopes or pretending that we have no needs. It means learning to appreciate what we have without allowing what we lack to determine our happiness. Enjoy a simple pleasure today. At a meal, pause to thank God not only for the food but also for the people, work, and resources that brought it to your table.
November 7: Share the story. Psalm 107:1–9 calls God’s people to give thanks for His goodness and steadfast love. Think about a time when you experienced God’s provision, comfort, or guidance, and share that experience with someone else. Your story may encourage someone who needs a reminder of God’s faithfulness.
As you move through this first week, consider keeping a small gratitude journal or adding your blessings to a family list. Don’t worry about finding something impressive to write down. The goal isn’t to prove that life is perfect; it’s to become more attentive to the good that is already present.
A question to carry with you this week: What might I notice today if I slowed down long enough to recognize God’s goodness?
May this first week help us open our eyes, remember the Giver of every good gift, and begin counting our blessings—one day at a time.
Be blessed!! Be a blessing!
