Summer Joy and the Goodness of God

Summer has a way of reminding us to notice life again. The warmth of the sun, the sound of laughter outside, family gatherings, vacations, cookouts, gardens in bloom, children playing, longer evenings, and moments spent with people we love can all become gentle reminders of the goodness of God.

In the middle of a busy and often stressful world, summer invites us to slow down enough to recognize joy.

The psalmist writes:

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does He withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in You.”
— Psalm 84:11–12

What a beautiful picture of God’s heart toward His people. He is both our “sun” — bringing warmth, light, life, and joy — and our “shield” — offering protection, strength, and care. In every season, God remains generous and faithful.

Mental and emotional health are strengthened when we learn to recognize goodness around us. Gratitude has a way of lifting our eyes beyond fear, discouragement, and constant pressure. Joy does not mean life is free from hardship, but it does mean we can still discover God’s faithfulness in everyday moments.

Jesus Himself enjoyed meals with friends, attended celebrations, spent time outdoors, and welcomed children with warmth and delight. Faith is not only about endurance through difficult seasons — it is also about learning to receive moments of beauty, laughter, peace, and rest as sacred gifts.

This summer, take time to notice the good:

  • a meaningful conversation
  • an evening walk
  • time with family
  • the beauty of creation
  • moments of worship
  • quiet peace after a busy day

These small moments can nourish the soul more than we realize.

As people of God, may we encourage one another not only to persevere through life’s burdens, but also to celebrate the goodness of God together. May this season renew our hearts with gratitude, hope, and joy as we trust in the One who withholds no good thing from His children.

Be blessed this summer!! Be a blessings to others along the way!!
